1. Who we are
Weather Slate is a U.S.-focused weather app for iPhone, published by 4E2 LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”). This policy covers the Weather Slate app, its supporting weather and alert services, and weatherslate.com.
Weather Slate has no ads and does not require a Weather Slate account. Local forecasts, optional alerts, purchase-related features, and optional app-usage analytics involve processing information as described below.

2. Information and how it is used
Location and weather requests
When you allow location access, Weather Slate requests your device’s location while you use the app to show local weather. The app requests kilometer-level accuracy, but the coordinates returned by your device may be more precise. You can also search for a U.S. place or select a saved location without sharing your current device location.
Coordinates for the location you check are sent to weather services, including Apple Weather and NOAA/National Weather Service, to obtain forecasts, alerts, and climate context. Place searches and reverse geocoding use Apple Maps services. Radar requests identify the map area being viewed and pass through our Cloudflare-hosted radar service.
Weather Slate does not continuously track your location in the background. If you enable weather alerts, the alert service uses your last location updated while the app was in the foreground; it does not automatically follow every movement.
Saved locations, settings, and Weather Plans
Saved places, their nicknames and coordinates, unit preferences, and manual Weather Plans are stored on your device. Plans can include titles, dates, locations, forecast snapshots, and recaps. Locations and dates needed to retrieve weather are used in weather-service requests.
Weather Score and weather-story text are calculated in the app from weather information. Your plan titles are not sent to a generative-AI service to produce those summaries. Device backups you enable may contain locally stored app information.
Optional calendar access
If you choose to connect a calendar, iOS asks for calendar access. Weather Slate reads selected calendar events to create and update Weather Plans and show weather for upcoming events. It does not create, edit, or delete events in your calendars or write changes back to them.
Imported information includes event titles, dates and times, time zones, calendar and event identifiers, recurrence information, and event locations. Calendar connections, imported records, and location choices are stored locally.
An event’s location text may be sent to Apple’s geocoding service to find coordinates, and those coordinates and relevant dates are used to obtain weather. Event titles are not included in the app’s custom analytics events.
Optional weather notifications
When you enable Weather Alerts, the app registers an installation identifier, an Apple push-notification token, app version/build, time zone, and locale with our Cloudflare-hosted alert service. An authentication credential protects that registration; its secret is stored in the device Keychain, and the server stores a hash.
The service stores your latest alert-location latitude and longitude and notification status, queries official National Weather Service alerts for that point, and uses Apple Push Notification service to deliver eligible alerts. It also keeps limited delivery and retry records to avoid sending duplicates. Saved places and calendar events do not automatically become push-alert subscriptions.
Optional app-usage analytics
We use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how people use Weather Slate and improve the app.
Starting with version 0.2 (Build 17), usage analytics is optional and OFF by default. It remains off unless you enable Share Usage Analytics under Settings → Privacy. You can enable or disable it there at any time. Your choice does not affect access to weather features.
Earlier builds, including version 0.2 (Build 16), enabled analytics when the app started. Build 17 requires an explicit choice to enable analytics, including for people updating from an earlier build.
When enabled, analytics uses app-instance and vendor identifiers, app and operating-system information, general geographic information such as country or region, and app-interaction events. These events can include sessions, app opens, updates, and supported purchase events where applicable.
Our custom events describe screens opened, forecast-day offsets, whether a location was current, searched, or saved, and actions such as saving a favorite or changing units. They do not include GPS coordinates, place names, search text, calendar event titles, or Weather Plan titles. Identifiers can associate analytics records with an app installation or device, so we do not describe these records as anonymous.
Our Google Analytics configuration has:
- No linked Google Ads accounts.
- Google Signals turned off.
- Advertising personalization disabled in all regions.
- Granular location and device data collection turned off.
- Google products & services data sharing turned off.
We do not use this analytics data for targeted advertising, remarketing, or tracking you across other companies’ apps or websites for advertising or advertising measurement. The app uses Firebase’s analytics component without advertising-identifier collection capability.
Turning off granular collection limits detailed fields such as city-level location and specific device details; it does not remove all general geographic information or identifiers. These settings describe our current configuration and do not mean that previously collected information has been deleted. See Google’s explanation of granular collection controls.
For more about Google’s processing, see Firebase’s privacy information and Google’s Privacy Policy.
Weather Slate Plus and purchase information
Where Plus purchases are available, Apple processes payments through the App Store. Weather Slate uses Apple’s StoreKit to check product and subscription information, purchase verification, expiration, and revocation status so it can determine your access.
We do not receive your full payment-card information. Apple handles its billing records under its own policies. When optional usage analytics is enabled, Firebase may also record supported purchase events where applicable.
Support and technical information
If you email us, we receive your email address, your message, and any attachments you choose to include. We use them to respond, investigate problems, and keep a record of the request. Please do not send passwords, payment-card details, or unnecessary sensitive information.
Service providers that receive network requests also process technical information such as IP addresses, request metadata, and service diagnostics to deliver and protect their services. Our alert and radar services record operational status and error information for maintenance and troubleshooting.
3. Service providers and disclosure
We use information to deliver requested weather features, manage purchase-related access, understand app usage when analytics is enabled, respond to support requests, and maintain security. The services involved include:
- Apple: WeatherKit, Maps/geocoding, device permissions and calendar access, App Store purchases, and push notifications. See Apple’s privacy information.
- NOAA and the National Weather Service: official alerts, radar source data, and climate information for requested locations. See National Weather Service privacy information.
- Cloudflare: website delivery, radar and notification hosting, and the alert-registration database. See Cloudflare’s Privacy Policy.
- Google/Firebase: optional app-usage analytics described above. See Firebase’s privacy information.
- Email infrastructure: delivery and storage of messages you send to support.
Information may be processed in the United States or other places where our providers operate. We may also disclose information where reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect people or the service, address fraud or security incidents, or complete a business transfer subject to applicable privacy obligations.
4. Permissions and your choices
Location
Change Weather Slate’s location permission, including precise-location access where available, in iPhone Settings. You may search for weather locations manually.
Notifications
Turn off Weather Alerts in the app while connected so the service can remove your alert-location subscription. You can also disable notifications in iPhone Settings. A server-side change requires the app to communicate with the service; changing the iPhone notification permission alone is not a request to delete the server’s records.
Calendars
Disconnect a calendar in the app or revoke calendar permission in iPhone Settings. When the app next checks and detects revoked permission, it clears its imported calendar state. Original calendar events are unaffected.
Saved content
Remove saved places and manual plans using their in-app controls. Archiving a plan keeps it rather than deleting it.
Analytics
Starting with version 0.2 (Build 17), enable or disable Share Usage Analytics under Settings → Privacy.
Turning it off stops future analytics collection through the app’s analytics controls. It does not automatically delete information already collected.
Location and notification permissions are separate from your analytics choice. Disabling analytics does not stop information processing needed for features you continue to use, such as weather requests, map searches, or enabled weather alerts.
For questions or requests about previously collected information, contact support@weatherslate.com. Historical records are handled through the applicable service’s retention and deletion processes.
Purchases
If you have a Plus subscription, manage or cancel it through your Apple Account’s subscription settings.
Privacy requests
Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, or a copy of personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing.
Email us with your request. We may ask for limited information needed to verify it and locate relevant records. Because Weather Slate has no user login, we may not be able to link an installation’s technical records to an email address. We will explain any limitation, applicable exception, or further review process. We will not discriminate against you for exercising applicable privacy rights.
5. Retention and deletion
We keep information according to its purpose and the operation of the relevant service.
Local saved content
Places, settings, and manual plans remain until changed or removed. Archiving a plan keeps it. Local recovery copies may exist after a data-format migration, and device backups follow your backup settings. Keychain credentials may persist after uninstalling the app.
Calendar imports
Upcoming events are refreshed within a 14-day window. Local recurrence observations are pruned beyond a 42-day lookback during synchronization. Your chosen location mappings remain until the related calendar is disconnected. Cleanup occurs when the app synchronizes or detects revoked access.
Alert subscriptions
Turning alerts off through a successful server request removes the stored alert-location subscription. Scheduled cleanup makes location records older than 30 days eligible for removal.
Disabled installation registrations that have not been seen for 90 days are eligible for removal once related delivery and subscription records have cleared.
Alert delivery records
Duplicate-prevention and retry records become eligible for cleanup one day after their alert expires. Cleanup runs in batches; eligibility is not a guarantee of immediate erasure.
Analytics
Our Google Analytics property is configured for a two-month retention period for the user/event-level data governed by that setting.
This does not mean that every analytics record is erased exactly two months after it was created. Google’s deletion processing, the treatment of user identifiers when new activity occurs, and standard aggregated reports follow the service’s retention rules. Standard aggregated reports can remain available beyond that period. See Google’s data-retention explanation.
Turning off analytics does not automatically erase previously collected information. Contact support@weatherslate.com for questions about retained information or a deletion request.
Support, security, and service records
We retain these as reasonably needed to resolve the issue, maintain service security, handle related follow-up or disputes, and satisfy applicable legal obligations.
Provider logs, backups, and records held independently by Apple or other providers follow their applicable retention processes. The app’s cleanup periods and our Google Analytics setting do not establish a single retention period for every provider or every category of information.
Uninstalling the app does not cancel a Plus subscription or send an immediate deletion request to every service. Use the controls above and contact us if you need help with information stored outside your device.
6. This website
This website does not use advertising scripts, analytics scripts, forms, or application cookies or browser storage. Its example weather displays do not request your location or retrieve live forecasts.
Cloudflare processes network requests and technical information to deliver and protect the website. Links to other websites take you to services with their own policies.
7. Children and security
Weather Slate is a general-audience service and is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact support@weatherslate.com so we can investigate and take appropriate action.
We use safeguards appropriate to the information, including encrypted network connections and protected device storage for notification credentials. No system can guarantee absolute security. Please share only the information needed when contacting support.
