Choose the question before the layout
Different moments call for different information. A current-condition glance can help before leaving the house. A short outlook can draw attention to a change later. A saved place could be useful when you regularly check on another location.
These are examples of useful widget purposes, not a confirmed list of Weather Slate widget sizes or types. The product’s widget work is active, but the final public offering and any Plus requirements are not settled on this page.
A good glance has a clear limit
Small displays need a strong reading order: what place, what time, and what condition? A number without a location can be misleading when you travel. A forecast without a time context can be mistaken for current conditions.
The more detailed the decision, the more useful it is to open the app. Comparing multiple hours, investigating radar movement, or reading an official warning needs more context than a compact surface can reasonably provide.
Widgets do not update continuously
iOS manages widget updates with schedules and system resource budgets. A widget is not continuously running just because it is visible. Apple explains this behavior in its widget update documentation.
For time-sensitive weather, open the app and check the latest information. Do not treat a glanceable widget as a live radar monitor or an emergency warning channel. Display freshness and actual weather change are separate questions.
What to expect from Weather Slate
Weather Slate widgets are in development. No widget screenshot is shown here because the approved website assets contain genuine app screens, not a verified widget capture. We will use real widget imagery when it is available.
