Why 77 degrees can feel very different
Picture two afternoons at the same temperature. One is dry with a light breeze; the other is muggy with passing rain. The thermometer has barely changed, but your choice of clothing, activity, or time outdoors might.
Temperature, moisture, precipitation, and wind provide different pieces of that picture. A person sitting in the shade may also experience the day differently from someone running in the sun. No single number can capture every person or activity.
Read the score, then read the reasons
Weather Slate’s 1–10 Weather Score is a concise comfort guide. The explanation alongside it is as useful as the number: it identifies conditions that help comfort and conditions that may make an outing less pleasant. The detailed screen also puts the score in an hourly context.
Use it to decide where to look next. A lower score associated with rain calls for a closer look at precipitation timing. A score affected by muggy conditions invites you to compare the feels-like temperature and your time outdoors. The app does not use generative AI to write these explanations.
A useful comparison, with limits
Compare the same location over time rather than treating small score differences as precise measurements of your experience. A shift from a dry morning to a wet afternoon may matter more than a small change in the number.
The forecast can update, and a future plan may have incomplete hourly coverage. Read any provisional or partial-forecast notice. A score based on limited information should not carry the same weight as a complete, recent outlook.
Comfort is separate from safety
A comfortable score is not an all-clear. It does not override a warning, a venue’s rules, or conditions you can see around you. Use official alerts for hazards and the detailed forecast for decisions involving prolonged exposure.
Start with current conditions, then compare the hours you actually expect to be outside. That keeps the score in its intended role: a quick introduction to the weather, with the important details close by.
